Money: Separate Checkbooks for Lasting Marriage
Posted November 8, 2006 7:05 PM
What are the secrets to lasting marriage? We've all been there before. We have all spent countless hours and thousands of dollars looking for that perfect marriage solution to our crisis, and it always seems to be the same problem over and over again! Money! We don't have enough of it, can't make enough of it or can't retain enough of it to keep ourselves out of the hole.

One would think that once one gets married that there are suddenly two paychecks instead of one and that the monetary woes should miraculously disappear with double the income, but it just never works out that way, does it? The solution, my Guyville friends, is separate checkbooks. I've been doing it with my wife for over ten years and we have NEVER had a cross word about finances. How can she bitch me out about buying a playstation and fifty new games if she doesn't pay the bill? How can I berate her for buying yet another pair of shoes when I haven't the foggiest of how much they cost? Nor do I care, because I don't have to pay the bill. Yes, it's marital bliss, I tell you. Try it. Try splitting the bills down the middle too if you make equal amounts of money. If you don't, then divide the bills in a percentage that most accurately reflects your incomes. Let your Guyville brother from another mother know how it goes for you. GOOD LUCK!
