Random: What Mom Wants For Mothers Day

Posted May 8, 2007 6:08 PM

Hpim0010-1 Ah, Mothers Day...the day where we show our love to the one who gave us life. How can we tell this all important woman how much she means to us? Because truly, mom is number one and she should be revered, however, in the same breath, we don't want to blow too much money on a present...because let's face it pretty soon it'll be her birthday, then ten other birthdays from other family members, and then Christmas will be here, and Valentines Day again...it's exhausting. The truth is, what mom likely really wants is for you to make her a nice dinner at home and maybe give her some lovely flowers.

Here are some stats straight from the Business Wire. Men will spend an average of $73.80 on their gift while women will spend an average of $58.40. Which really means that the notion of being a momma's boy or having "mother/daughter issues" starts to make sense when you see how big the discrepancy is. Now if you're not so great with the cooking and ordering Chinese doesn't quite get the job done in your mind (ours either by the way) then perhaps an Amazon Gift Card for that hard to buy matriarch is in order. If all else fails and if your Ma has some masculine sensibilities, then we suggest you peruse our Guyville Store where you'll find every and all gifts for men - and some gifts for mom too.

I can also speak about another two related issues: (a) women are thriftier than men and (b) when it comes to shopping, men spend more then women.

Regarding issue (a) this is quite true because women generally show a greater value towards money. Men, on the other hand, are faced with so many job opportunities in a patriarchal society thus they need not worry about loss of money in the future. About issue (b), since most men receive bigger salary or pay than women they can afford to buy expensive gifts; especially when it’s for a special girl like their mom.
