Money: Marketing Did What With Our Money?
Posted September 13, 2007 9:44 AM
In this wide wide world of products, there will inevitably be something working to get them sold, namely advertising. But like every business, evolution has to occur and advertising works to keep the products on the front line and noticeable to the consumers. Keeping this in mind, it might be understandable for some odd ways of advertisement to spring up now and again, but sometimes not so much. We have two such campaigns that definitely fall under the latter.
The first isn't so much a poor campaign, quite the opposite in fact, as it is ballsy and kind of disturbing. It is a commercial from Virgin Money for home loans and I'm sure it works on its intended audience. Anyways the commercial features old couples groovin on each other, displaying their loyalty and commitment to each other. Definitely sound proof that they need to take out a home loan, but hey, it's kinda funny.
(And seeing how virgin is spending all of its money on hot advertising and not on a decent server, the commercial might not load. If so you can watch it here.
Now the next commercial, *cough* *ahem* TV show, involves two of the great deceivers: Unilever PLC's Axe body spray, because that crap gets girls (wtf?), and MTV, hey way to popularize horrible music, at least we have VH1 I guess. Anyhow the two teamed up to create a show called "The Gamekillers" where a male contestant tries to work his game on an arranged date. The "twist" is that people will be coming at the contestant from all angles trying to mess his game up and guess what, the date will be in on it too! Sound cool? Yea! So cool! And after watching it I'll subconsciously want to go bathe myself in Axe body spray.
The show ended up being a success and Axe Dry body spray sales increased an estimated 60% because of it. Way to go consumer manipulators, you win again. But hey feel free to shop on guyville! We guarantee we wont ever advertise with fake TV shows or bumpin and grindin old folks, just a huge selection of guy gifts.
So that's all for today because after watching those commercials consecutively for about a half hour I suddenly want to go test my game and score with some senior citizens. Thanks Axe body spray!
