Fitness: Toughness Means Fitness, Sort Of
Posted October 15, 2007 9:49 AM
All of those far off days of playing outside in the streets and parks definitely added up to make for some rambunctious, and probably tough, little kids, so why not take a page from our younger years? That's right guys it's time to bring back some of the classic games that brought us so much fun and pain. We've composed a list of activities that all have that childhood ring and sting and are possibly guaranteed to whip you into shape.
- So first off there's the tramp and dive. This requires a trampoline of any size (larger usually means better results) and a space to jump. The area surrounding can vary based on your level of commitment. Soft grass is a good starter to practice your lack of form in landing but once you're sure you wont be trying to break your fall you'll probably want to move up to rocky dirt or pavement. The purpose of the game is pretty much to see who can fall off of the trampoline the most painfully. Nothing life threatening or any broken bones, but bruising and cuts are easy to score.
- Another game would be dyke on a trike. This involves some form of wheeled transportation (i.e. tricycle, skateboard, roller blades, etc.), a not so busy street, newspaper, rubber bands/string, water, and a lighter. The set up is rolling the newspaper up and tying it so it stays, then lighting one end on fire. The person that's it grabs his wheels and goes in the middle of the road and starts riding past the people on the sidewalk who aren't it. From there the game is a lot like three flies up except that you get a "catch" for every time you hit the person with the newspaper. You can also play it without the flame, but with poorer results (flaming newspaper flying at you is way more fun). One of the fun variations can be done with water balloons, watch and learn:
Drop a comment if you get around to any of these or submit your own so others can get whipped into shape too.
This guy is in such good shape.
Also, always remember a camera or video camera if available.
