The history of Valentine's Day is a little vague, but here is what we know, or think we know...Valentine was likely a priest who lived and served in the third century in Rome. Once the Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made a better choice as soldiers than those who were married, he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine, smelling an injustice, performed marriages in private so that young lovers could be together properly. Ultimately, Valentine was found out and put to death. Not so great as far as gifts for him went that particular year.
